WHY DOES NEBRASKA NEED RIGHT-TO-CARRY?

The facts speak for themselves:

    • According to U.S. Department of Justice statistics, 85% of violent crime in America occurs outside the home. The right of self-defense neither begins nor ends at your front door, nor does it begin or end at a state border.
    • States with right-to-carry laws have lower overall violent crime rates than states without such laws. Total violent crime is 18% lower; homicide is 21% lower; robbery is 32% and aggravated assault is 11 % lower.
    • According to John R. Lott, Jr., John M. Olin Visiting Law and Economics Fellow at the University of Chicago "If those states which did not have right-to-carry concealed gun provisions had adopted them in 1992, approximately 1,570 murders; 4,177 rapes; and over 60,000 aggravated assaults would have been avoided yearly."
    • "The evidence implies that concealed handguns are the most cost-effective method of reducing crime that has been analyzed by economists; they provide a higher return than increased law enforcement or incarceration, other private security devices, or social programs like early education intervention." (More Guns, Less Crime, University of Chicago Press, 1998)
    • To find out how you can help Nebraska join the 31 other states with right-to-carry laws, please call NRA-ILA's Grassroots Division at 1-800-392-8683 to become an NRA-ILA volunteer. You'll receive special alerts on the status of right-to-carry legislation in the Unicameral, where your state senator stands on the issue and what you can do to pass this life-saving legislation in your state.
